Ayanda graduated with a BCOM Communication Management from the University of Pretoria (2007) and later an Honours Marketing degree from the University of South Africa (2011).
She used her educational accomplishments as a base for a stellar career at some of the world’s leading organisations.
She stands her own as a formidable business woman, recently opening Johannesburg’s new unisex luxury salon, Liyanda Hair & Beauty Salon at Melrose Arch.
Ayanda is also Managing Director and Founder of Buzzworthy Productions, servicing companies who aim to create “a buzz” for their brands. The agency has been in operation since 2011 with a growing client list that includes Nestle, Loreal, Tsogo Sun, Denel Aviation, to name a few. She also has a keen interest in developing, encouraging and creating sustainable and practical solutions for entrepreneurs and is one of the founders of a non-profit organisation called the African Emancipation Foundation which has worked with the likes of Standard Bank and Wits Business School to bring to life their yearly activities namely entrepreneur related talks and year end functions for entrepreneurs.
2016 was a breakout year for Ayanda Thabethe’s rising star as she became a household name and finally commanded deserved attention.
She was cast as the lead actress on popular South African drama series Rockville Season 4, where she played a versatile and highly talked about character Aaliyah, “A woman with a mission. ” Her performance on the series made Ayanda a social media trend and one of the most spoken about media personalities, with a viewership of well over 400k viewers per episode.
She had previously enjoyed various small roles on South Africa’s small screen. Productions that stand out are: Generations Legacy, playing a character named Gugu, Zion –a movie where she acted as a detective alongside seasoned actress Gail Mabalane and a 5-part drama series called Tooth and Nails where she was cast as a run-down pregnant teenager.
Ayanda is a versatile actress fluent in both Zulu and English, with an unwavering drive and passion for the art of acting.
Continuing on her 2016 success trajectory, Ayanda started off 2017 with a dream-come-true. She was named Top Billing’s new TV presenter, SA’s biggest and longest running lifestyle magazine show, broadcast weekly on the national broadcaster’s SABC 3.
In 2016 Ayanda landed her biggest TV host role as an anchor host on BET Africa’s first magazine and lifestyle show, BET A-list. The weekly entertainment show is a pan-African show that broadcasts in 49 different countries within the African continent.
Ayanda landed her first entertainment role as co-host alongside musician and rapper Kiernan Forbes also known as AKA on the entertainment show “Top Entertainment” on Top TV. She later joined the E! Entertainment Africa family as one of the first faces to cover their red carpet shows across South Africa.
